SAMMY T- PROFILE

Tell us abt yourself, radio and music?

Not much to say about me except, I am Sammy T. I love my tunes and don’t apologise for that?

I‘m now on 94.7FM in JHB, RSA. Been on 5FM, YFM, Metro FM also in RSA and RB2 in Botswana. My unbroken records speak for themselves.

What else?

Where u from?

Where am I from? Harare, Did high school at Fush in Mabelreign. Went to first gig at Fush in 1986. Was hooked on tunes long before that but got to see a DJ live and decided to do it too. Took a while but happened eventually. Got edged on by a lot good souls like Stan Pound, even Bosch, Fast Eddie, DJ Sid (BW) Cosmo (BW), Fresh(SA) and Eddie Ed(USA) just to name a few. Met a lot of A-holes too but that’s showbiz for ya.

Your biggest and best show?

Biggest show on decks, has to be 2002 JHB stadium, 50 000 party animals jumping up and down. I lost my head and went loco too, great show I must upload the video on the website when it goes up.

Best show? That’s a tough one.  Has to be in Club Absolute in Bloemfontein abt 400k from JHB and one time in the coast town of Port Elizabeth, totally unbelievable. SA small town crowds are on another level. They know how to party unreservedly. I like that.

How do u know Mujay?

Well Mujay, va Munjanja, is a legend in my books and has been ahead of his time. We (him and me) were part of the same DJ crew. We are the original Mixmasters, minus a couple the older boys, RIP Stan £ Sterlin, Gene & Dirwayi). Miss those guys and Spillway. Gigs were simple then. Now it’s a whole different ball game and the scene size is astronomical. Tell you one thing we still “committed to excellence” and there’s no room for 2nd rate.

What’s next from here?

What next? For me its keep discovering new sounds, remixing making noise, making money, having fun. You live once and my motto remains:

“In life there is no manual, so make your own, and whatever you do, do it right and while you at it, have fun doin’ it, otherwise, don’t do it at all”

And the mixes?

Depending on the response to the mixes, I can do more and send ‘em in. I got stacks of stuff that I haven’t unleashed. From r’n’b, hiphop, and house, my boys bootlegs and rare grooves, enuff tunes
