Kenny Lattimore – Kenny Lattimore 1996 image

Upon its release, critics hailed Kenny Lattimore as an album that hearkened back to the time of Donny Hathaway and Marvin Gaye when “R&B had more soul” The set was bolstered by the success of singles “Never Too Busy,” “Just What It Takes,” and the now-signature song and perennial wedding ballad “For You.” The album reached a peak of #19 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart It also reached #92 on The Billboard 200 chart on May 3, 1997. The album contained a large portion of midtempo soul songs and romantic ballads. Five of the songs were co-written by Lattimore. “Never Too Busy” cracked the Top 20 of the R&B charts and spurred the album to gold sales. “For You” made an even higher impact reaching #6 on the R&B charts. The album made such a splash for Lattimore that he was nominated that year for the Best Male R&B Artist Grammy the following year.

Lauryn Hill New Single Listen here 26 Jul 2010

Lauryn Hill New Single Listen here thumbnail imageSeeing the words “new Lauryn Hill song” are the equivalent to “congratulations, you’ve won a million dollars” in my world. OK, maybe not quite, but it does feel like I’ve hit the jackpot with “Repercussions,” an L-Boogie track that surfaced on the internet this weekend. Just how new it is is also up for debate, but whether [...]

Koffee Brown – Mars / Venus 2001 13 Apr 2010

Koffee Brown – Mars / Venus 2001 thumbnail imageThe duo Koffee Brown had major success with their debut single “After Party,” a smooth jazzy dance track that started climbing the charts in early 2001 and is included on their Arista debut album Mars/Venus. Filling a male/female-singing duo void of the time, Koffee Brown was easily embraced. Singer/songwriters Fonz and Vee were teamed together [...]
